15.5 acres on North Main Street located directly east of St. Helena's Episcopal Church, was the former site of the St. Mary's Sanitarium. This hospital originally served ailing Catholic Priests and eventually expanded to offer treatment for tuberculosis patients and local citizens. Located directly behind the sanitarium was a grade school, Holy Angels Academy, which provided an education for local citizens, orphans and the disadvantaged.
